This has a lot of different portions in it. it is fascinating. It looks ancient to me, but it is too soft to be too old. Oh -- did I mention that it is green? Measures approximately 1 3/8".

All those news articles about hail the size of a golf ball? Well this is a petrified hailstone. Well, it could be...well...it measures approximately the size of a golf ball.

This is an unusual find for me. It is a reddish rock with white bands. It seems like a tough little cookie -- but it is small. About 1 inch worth.

Sometimes I have to raid my collection stash for a rock of the day, because I haven't found one each day. This one today is a special rock because the subtle bands are raised slightly and I like the feel of them. Measures approximately 7/8".

This rock is a light pink mottled, and had glittery bits in it as well. The photos would not turn out the right color. Argh! Lovely rock and unusual find in my town of Claremont. Approximately 1 1/4".

I was very excited to find a new sprayed color rock -- this one is a teal color. It is a nice grainy rock, too. Rugged. Measures approximately 2 1/4".

I love to kick things. Always did. I used to play Kickball as a kid. I used to play Kick the Can. I like to see how far I can kick a rock in the street. This rock got kicked around yesterday and it was mighty fun.

I don't find geodes. I see them in shops but I had never found until this one. It is not a spectacular one, but it is one. Measures approximately 1 1/3".

I had a rock all picked out and cannot find it anywhere. So I went out tonight in the dark for another rock, a substitute, and saw the white stripes. That is what hailed me to this rock. Measures approx 1".

Sometimes I hold a stone in my hand for a ways on my walks. This one is so smooth and a good shape, that it was a pleasant feeling. Then the more I held it, the more it seemed about the shape of an ear. About the right size. Measures the size of a large ear.

This is the first really creamy yellow rock I have found on my rock walks. It is a landscape rock and is approximately 1 1/3".

One of my favorite scenes in Wizard of Oz is when the Scarecrow points directions to Dorothy. There is a similar scene in Alice in Wonderland with the caterpillar. This rock was pointing the way today. It is approximately 2" long

This rock dries very quickly, so I have named it a "towel" rock. It is very thin and flat, and is approximately 1 1/2".

We used to use the game to choose sides, to see who goes first, or who has to take out the trash. This rock is approximately 4".

I saw the opportunity to buy a rock from a commercial vending machine at a pizza parlor today. How could I resist? For one quarter, you get a rock, a piece of paper describing the rock, and the little capsule it comes in. I put my quarter right on in. And this is what  came out. Now if I could just get the capsule open.... (gemstone looks like it measures approx 5/8")

It is not often I find a rock like this in this town. Usually I find more granite-like rocks. This one has a pretty swirly effect. Is approximately 1 3/4".

This is a strange rock. It must have sat in water for a long time. One side is very soft green,with rings. The other side is scuffy and rough. Measures approximately 2 2/4".

Is this not the most darling alteration of a rock?! Bought it in a thrift store I had never been to, and it was as marked, a quarter. The name on the back is Jake. Thank you Jake! Measures approximately priceless.

My mother collected beach rocks that were smooth, round, and often had holes where animals had burrowed in to make life for awhile. She had a large wooden bowl of them; some rocks graced her wildflower gardens; some rocks were in small clear dishes on kitchen and bathroom counter-tops. We played with them, stacking, sorting. I guess we learn a lot of what we love from our parents. She would have loved this rock too. Measures approximately 1 5/8" diameter.

I am a nut for rocks now. I look every day for a good rock for posting. I hit the trail and find a mixed bag. It is tasty! This rock is right at home at the size of a mature walnut in its shell.
